Humphries Poli Architects named
2005 AIA Denver Firm of the Year
Denver , Colorado – Humphries Poli Architects, P.C. was selected as Firm of the Year 2005 by the Denver Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The firm was honored at the organization’s annual gala, held September 30 at Denver’s Walnut Foundry.
Chaired by architect Karl Berg, FAIA, the award committee selected Humphries Poli Architects because it “ exemplifies the very best qualities that the profession has to offer.” The committee e specially noted “the balance [the] firm demonstrates in the areas of professional service, community service and quality design.”
The AIA Firm of the Year Award recognizes the architecture firm that has singularly “contributed to the profession and set an example” in the areas of design, leadership, professional practice, and community service. Firms must have been in business for at least a decade.
In her nomination letter, former City Councilwoman, columnist, and community activist Susan Barnes-Gelt lauded both principals’ active roles in the community and the firm’s history of winning design (19 design awards in 11 years). She writes, “There are a handful of “go-to” architectural firms when quality design and community leadership are called for. Humphries Poli is truly at the top of that list.” Noted urban designer Ronald Straka, FAIA, was similarly enthusiastic in his nomination, writing, “They are role models for others to follow and build upon.”
Upon learning of their firm’s selection as Firm of the Year, Dennis Humphries expressed his appreciation to the award committee, saying, “We are both humbled and pleased that our staff is being recognized for their commitment to the profession and our community.” Joseph Poli, too, was delighted, noting, “Design excellence is the foundation of this architectural recognition, and of our practice.”
Humphries Poli Architects is a Denver-based professional corporation founded in 1994 by Dennis Humphries, AIA, and Joseph Poli, AIA. Recent notable and award-winning projects include + Gallery ( Denver), Westminster Public Safety Center, Ten-Winkle Towers ( Denver), and Century Lofts ( Denver). The 24-person firm offers architecture, interior design, urban design, and landscape architecture services, and specializes in housing, libraries, civic buildings, mixed-use, and preservation projects. |
