To the Editor: The election was certainly a shock to the Democrats. This victory was monumental for the Republicans and devastating for the Democrats. Their attempts to spin the results are hysterical. Let’s take a look at some of the most pathetic: “Republicans blocked Obama on all progress and made Obama and Democrats unpopular.” Let’s see ... Obama has the White House, Democrats had the Senate for six years and Democrats had both houses for two years ... but lack of “progress” was the Republicans fault! They did nothing about illegal immigration and now blame that on Republicans. The Republicans …

Tue, 11/18/2014 - 11:21am
In the wake of Grand County Judge Ben McClelland not being retained by voters on Nov. 4, officials with the Colorado Judicial Branch forwarded this information to the Sky-Hi News about the process for filling the vacancy on the bench. In 1966, Colorado voters passed a constitutional amendment which provides that state judges be appointed rather than elected on a political ticket. Now, when a vacancy occurs in a county or district judgeship, the judicial district nominating commission interviews applicants and recommends individuals to the governor for consideration and …

Since statehood, Colorado’s public has relied on local newspapers to publish such notices. Colorado Counties Inc., the association of county commissioners, has voted to pursue state legislation to allow counties to post their legal notices on individual county websites instead of in community newspapers. Similar legislation was defeated in 2013. In 2014, the Colorado Press Association won approval of legislation to create …
