In the Shadow of Blackbirds
combines a series of historical events from the early part of the 20th century with a healthy dose of the spriritualism that was running rampant at the time, then spices it with the ghost of Mary Shelly Black's first love. The terror that arose from the Spanish Influenza, layered over the horror of the War to End all Wars, gave rise to the Spiritualist movement as people lost loved ones at every turn. In fact, one photo of Mary Shelly has taken on a life of its own, much to Mary Shelly's dismay.
