Accessibility Statement

1. Mission Statement: Grand County Library District offers online and digital platforms to further its mission of promoting boundless opportunities.

2. Purpose: The Web Accessibility Policy, approved by the Grand County Library District Board of Trustees, outlines our philosophy and guidelines to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA by July 1, 2024, and WCAG 2.2 AA by July 1, 2025, Office of Information Technology Accessibility Standards, as mandated in Colorado House Bill 21-1110.

3. Scope: The Library is committed to making the information and resources available on our website and other digital services accessible to all. This includes www.gcld.org, district documents, digital communication, and other digital content. This standard does not apply to web content or district documents produced by the Library before July 1, 2024. As a public library, we hire the services of over 30 web vendors to supply an array of digital content to our patrons and staff. The Library will ensure third-party content providers know of our web accessibility policy, and we will favor providers based on their accessibility conformance claims. While we cannot control the accessibility of content provided by third parties, we are happy to assist any member of the public with accessing content on our site.

4. Compliance: The Library will review all areas of Library-produced web applications and web content on an ongoing basis using Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools (WAVE). The Library has also created an accessibility technology plan to meet the July 1, 2024, deadline. All compliance documentation is available on www.gcld.org.

  • 4.1 Compliance Officer The Library has designated Polly Gallagher, Executive Director, as its compliance officer for website disability-related accommodations. The compliance officer has received training in website accessibility and maintains Library-produced web content per WCAG 2.1 AA best practices.
  • 4.2 Compliance Reports Annually, GCLD staff will provide annual updates to the GCLD Board of Trustees during the February meeting including WAVE reports, reports on accessibility, and progress on the Accessibility Technology Plan.

6. Compatibility with Browsers and Assistive Technology: Despite our best efforts to ensure the accessibility of GCLD, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for GCLD:

  1. Some third-party vendors in place prior to February 21, 2024, have not yet implemented WCAG standards.
  2. PDF reports prior to July 1, 2024, have some pictures and graphs that do not have alternative text added.
  3. PDF documents are screen reader friendly on multiple browsers including Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. They are not readable with iPhone or iPad Safari platform text to speech.
