Sierra Password Questions
Public library use is confidential so you may seek information and explore the world you live in without scrutiny or question from others. Libraries have long held this belief. The dramatic nationwide increase in cybercrime, identity theft, and security around personal identifying information (PII) has brought the need for passwords to the forefront of our libraries.
- Using a combination of letters (capital and lower case), numbers, and special characters (such as $ or #) takes longer to crack. #L1br4Ryc@rd takes roughly 138,000 years for current brute force attacks to guess.
- Save your password in a password vault.
A default password is not a good password as everybody knows the structure. All library card holders must change their password to a personal password (see What are best practices for password creation). If a patron does not change their password by July 31, our system will do an auto re-set with a randomly created password.
To change a randomly created password, see the “Help! I forgot my password” section of this FAQ.
